Rosy-finch Ramble with DFO: Park County
Friday, March 6, 2026, 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Leader: Joseph Tuttle
Trip Difficulty: Moderate
Habitats to bird: Aspen, Conifer Forest, Grassland, Riparian
This trip will be focused on seeing Rosy-finches at various feeder locations in Park County. Species we are likely to see include the three Rosy-finch Species(Brown-capped most likely, Gray-crowned likely, Black Rosies are sparse). Also other montane finches are likely to be seen, including Pine Grosbeaks and Red Crossbills. We may also visit the Middle Fork of the South Platte river on the Ranch where the leader lives to view American Dippers, which is always fun in the winter. We are largely going to be visiting feeders, so expect limited walking except to access the river to see Dippers. Be prepared for cold temperatures, wind, and snowy and icy conditions. Bring a lunch, snacks, and water. Restrooms available at intervals. A secondary meeting spot will be proposed for any participants coming from the Colorado Springs area.
This trip is limited and registration will open at noon on 1/30/2026. on this webpage: https://dfobirds.org/FieldTrips/Register.aspx?TripID=22327. If you do not already have an account with DFO, visit https://dfobirds.org/, click “LOGIN” then click “Create an account” and follow the prompts.
