SUMMARY:Aiken Monthly Meeting March 19 | Bringing Back the Lesser Prairie Chicken
DESCRIPTION:The Lesser Prairie-Chicken is an icon of Colorado’s southeastern prairies.  Due to a long list of environmental and anthropogenic factors\, they nearly became extirpated in extreme southeast Colorado and southwestern Kansas\, in an area that was considered one of the species’ core areas.  Additional threats are on the horizon\, making their future unclear. Join us\, along with Jonathan Reitz\, to find out and learn more about this beautiful grassland bird. \nJonathan Reitz is a Wildlife Biologist for Colorado Parks and Wildlife in Lamar\, CO.  He has been working on Lesser Prairie-Chicken conservation since 2006.  Jonathan helps manage\, research\, and conserve a long list of big game\, small game\, and threatened/endangered species in southeast Colorado. \nThis is an in-person meeting held at the BEAR CREEK NATURE CENTER; 245 Bear Creek Road 80906.\nPlease enter through the main doors. The meeting room is immediately to your left. Aiken Audubon members will greet you as you arrive and point you in the right direction. \nWin bags of bird seed in our chance drawing!
