SUMMARY:Aiken Spring Cookout and Potluck
DESCRIPTION:We’re doing something a little different for May’s monthly meeting! Please join us on Wednesday\, May 25th from 5:30-7:30 pm at Bear Creek for the first annual Aiken Audubon Spring Cookout and Potluck. We haven’t seen many of you in person in quite some time\, so we’re having a cookout to kick off the summer and make new friends. We’ll be cooking hotdogs and hamburgers\, as well as veggie dogs and veggie burgers. We’ll also have a cooler with some drinks and ask that you bring a side or dessert to share if possible. There are picnic tables\, but it might be a good idea to bring a lawn chair as well. Plan to bring your own plate and utensils in order to reduce waste. Please RSVP by clicking here by Monday\, May 23rd to ensure we have enough food for everyone. We hope to see you there and don’t forget to bring your binoculars just in case!

SUMMARY:Aiken Monthly Meeting: Pinyon Jays in Colorado
DESCRIPTION:The amazing social pinyon jay is familiar to many and yet surprisingly\, little to no research has been done regarding the species in Colorado. We do know that pinyon jay populations have recently been declining. Because of these declines\, Colorado Parks and Wildlife initiated a study in 2019 to locate breeding colonies across the state to better understand habitat use\, assess site fidelity\, and identify threats to reproductive output. Come spend an evening learning about the natural history of this species and recent research findings with Amy Seglund from Colorado Parks and Wildlife. \n  \nhttps://us06web.zoom.us/j/83817861538?pwd=UXBOZVNwQnl5cHBKZEJHUWw2ek1PUT09 \nMeeting ID: 838 1786 1538\nPasscode: 950611 \n

SUMMARY:Bird Collisions 101: Making Your Home and Community Safer for Birds
DESCRIPTION:VIEW RECORDING HERE \nThursday\, March 24\, 2022 2:00 PM –  3:00 PM MT \nWhite-throated Sparrow. Hermit Thrush. Black-and-white Warbler. These beloved birds are among the top bird species most at risk from window collisions. If you’ve ever heard a thud coming from your window\, it is possible one of these birds might have collided with it and sustained serious or even life-threatening injuries. \nEvery year up to 1 billion birds die as a result of collisions with glass in the U.S. There is a lot we can do individually and collectively to help birds\, especially during the seasons of migration when collision rates are even higher. \nIn our next webinar\, bird collisions experts will provide practical advice on preventing window strikes at home\, as well as tips to advocate for safer\, bird-friendly building policies in your community. \nSpeakers: \n\nDr. Christine Sheppard\, Glass Collisions Program Director\, ABC\nAnikó Tótha\, Bird Collision Glass Testing Program Coordinator\, ABC\nBryan Lenz\, Bird City Americas Director & Glass Collisions Program Manager\, ABC\n\nhttps://act.abcbirds.org/a/webinar-collisions-101?ms=social
