SUMMARY:2025 Colorado Springs Christmas Bird Count
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for this year’s Colorado Springs Christmas Bird Count on Saturday\, December 20\, 2025. \nEveryone is welcome to participate. Plan to spend at least the entire morning finding birds\, though times will vary. Come prepared for cold temperatures and possibly snow and ice. Feeder watchers are also encouraged to sign up and participate. \nWe will gather for a potluck dinner\, species compilation\, and sharing of the day’s adventures at Bear Creek Nature Center from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. on count night. \nFor more information or to sign up for the count\, please contact Tyler Stuart at colospringscbc@gmail.com. \n  \nPhoto: Evan Barrientos/Audubon. SUMMARY:Draw Pinyon Jays: Free Virtual Class
DESCRIPTION:This FREE online opportunity is not affilitaed with Aiken Audubon\, but you may be interested in this bird-themed activity with a local artist! From Saraiya Kanning with Raebird Creations: \nI’ve completely fallen in love with a bird most people have never heard of: the Pinyon Jay. \nOver the last few months\, I’ve been writing and illustrating an article for Birding magazine. In the process of interviewing 5 wildlife biologists and reading an extremely niche book on the species\, I’ve learned so much. \nPinyon Jays are present in Colorado\, where I grew up and now live\, and where I saw my lifer in my teens. (In birding lingo\, a lifer is the first time you ever see a species.) That color blue cannot be erased from memory\, nor can their nasal\, laughing calls. It’s wilderness distilled into one sound. \nRight now Pinyon Jays are under review by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service for potential listing under the Endangered Species Act. Their populations have declined an estimated 80% or more since the 1960s. It’s heartbreaking. \nThese birds are an iconic piñon–juniper woodland species. They help keep piñon forests alive through their cyclical relationship with piñon cones. And they are sheer FUN. Chatty\, gregarious\, and full of personality in classic jay fashion. I simply can’t imagine the world without them. \nSo I invite you to a short and FREE online art workshop where we’ll celebrate these spunky\, spirited birds. \nYou don’t need to be an “artist” (whatever that means). You don’t even need to be a birder.\nMaybe you’re someone who\, like me\, can’t stand to watch a species fade quietly. Maybe you’re someone who doesn’t quite know what to do about this ongoing planetary disarray and habitat loss.\nWe won’t be numb. Instead we’ll make art and fill the world with hand-drawn Pinyon Jays. Maybe they’ll fly right off the page and repopulate the forests in droves. It’s a start\, anyway. DESCRIPTION:Join us on Wednesday\, September 16th for our Annual Social & Silent Auction! \nAs summer comes to a close and we look forward to fall migration\, we hope you will join us for an evening of food\, fellowship\, and fundraising. 100% of funds raised will be used to support Aiken Audubon Society’s educational programs\, monthly guest speakers\, and research grants in 2027! \nThis year\, the event will take place at the Public House at the Alexander – 3104 N Nevada Ave\, Colorado Springs\, CO 80907 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm. Silent auction bidding will open promptly at 6:00pm\, and close at 7:30pm. Online bidding will not be available. \nDinner will be provided by our generous event sponsor\, Wild Birds Unlimited\, with gluten free and vegan options available. The menu will feature a taco bar\, including dessert and non-alcoholic beverages. Alcoholic beverages will be available for an additional purchase. \nThis is a ticketed event with limited seating. DESCRIPTION:Colorado Springs Birdability Week Events! \n\nCome bird with us Monday October 19 through Sunday October 25\n\nBirdability Week 2026 – Colorado Springs\n\nThis October\, join us for our second annual Birdability Week\, a week of welcoming\, accessible events centered around something we can all share: a love of birds!Birdability works to make birding and the outdoors more inclusive for people with disabilities and other accessibility considerations\, and our events are thoughtfully planned with accessibility in mind. But Birdability Week is for everyone! If you love birds\, enjoy nature\, want to learn something new\, or simply want to spend time with a welcoming community\, come as you are and join us. \nAll Birdability Week events are free! Join us for one event\, a few\, or the entire week. Advance registration is requested so we know who to expect and can prepare for any accommodations that will help make your experience comfortable and enjoyable. \nYou don’t need your own birding equipment! Take a short\, easy-paced walk with us and then settle in for a relaxed birding sit\, with plenty of time to watch\, listen\, and experience what comes our way.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSaturday October 24th\n\n\nBird Walk & Birding Sit at Nancy Lewis Park from 9:30-11 am\n\nJoin us for a Bird Walk & Birding Sit at Nancy Lewis Park from 9:30–11 am\, conveniently located in central Colorado Springs. With its pond and surrounding green space\, this accessible neighborhood park is a wonderful place to look for ducks\, geese\, and other waterfowl. Walk with us\, enjoy a birding sit\, or do a little of both.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSunday October 25th\n\n\nCar Birding at Evergreen Cemetery from 8:30-10am\n\nJoin us to explore an unexpected Colorado Springs birding hotspot: Evergreen Cemetery! From 8:30–10 am\, we’ll bird our way through the beautiful\, historic grounds by car\, stopping at several locations to explore different habitats. At each stop\, you can stay in your vehicle and bird from the car\, get out and explore\, or do a little of both. It’s a relaxed way to experience more of this 220-acre green space while looking and listening for the many birds that call Evergreen Cemetery home.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBirding Leaders\n\nAll of our bird walks will be led by Wild Birds Unlimited staff members Bryan Poss and Meridith Nash-Martin\, two wonderful birders who are excited to help make your birding experience as enjoyable as possible.
